How to play Mini Golf
Plan your putt and learn how each format is scored.
Aim and putt
Press on the course, pull back and release to putt. The ball travels opposite your pull. Pull farther for more power; adjust sideways to change direction. Use the same gesture with a mouse or trackpad.
The aim trace shows the opening path and its first wall bounce. It is a guide, not a promise that the ball will reach the cup. A tap or a pull that is too short does not take a stroke.
Turns and the scorecard
Take one putt at a time in player order. Players who have finished the hole are skipped. The outright winner of a hole goes first on the next; a tied hole keeps the previous starting player.
The top player cards show the running score for your format. Open Stats for each player's hole-by-hole strokes and current-hole progress. Par is the hole's target stroke count, not a limit on how many putts you can take.
The current game has no turn clock. Choose a format before starting; the available player and format choices depend on how you play.
Penalties and the stroke limit
Each putt counts as one stroke. Going out of bounds adds one penalty stroke and returns the ball to its last valid position.
The normal limit is eight strokes per player per hole. Reaching it records eight and finishes your hole. In Closest to the pin, you have one putt instead; its finishing distance determines who takes the hole.
Winning and tied rounds
In Stroke play, the lowest total wins. If totals match, more outright hole wins breaks the tie. In Match play, Skins and Closest to the pin, the highest hole or skin total leads; fewer total strokes breaks a tie.
If the leading players are still level after the round, play continues on extra holes. An unclaimed skin can also extend a Skins round. There are at most nine extra holes; if the leaders remain level, the match is a draw.
Game formats
Choose the format when you start your game. The available choices depend on how you play.
- Stroke playNine holes
- Count every stroke and penalty. The lowest total wins, with outright hole wins breaking an equal total.
- Eighteen holesBoth courses
- Use Stroke play scoring across all eighteen authored holes.
- Match playNine holes
- The outright lowest stroke count takes one point for a hole; a tied hole gives no point. In a two-player match, a lead larger than the remaining holes ends the match early.
- SkinsNine holes
- Each hole adds one skin. An outright winner takes that skin and any carried from tied holes. A tie carries the whole prize into the next hole.
- Closest to the pinOne putt per hole
- Each player takes one putt. The uniquely nearest ball wins the hole; a holed ball has zero distance. Equal nearest distances give no hole point.
